Bio
I’ve been flying since 1986, and my heart has always been in the grass. I live in the Detroit area now, but I’m a proud Yooper at my core. My obsession with backcountry flying started on day one, I soloed in a Piper Colt off a 2,000-foot grass field in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. That experience taught me early on that the best parts of aviation happen away from the pavement.
I’m the first to admit I’m not the best STOL pilot on the line, and I’m not here to chase trophies. For me, it’s all about the capability. I love what STOL performance allows me to do accessing those hidden Michigan strips and off-airport spots that most people fly right over.
When I’m not in the cockpit of my Stinson, out for a run, or documenting our local flying community through the Great Michigan Bush Co. I’m here at National STOL to represent the vintage, certified planes and the everyday pilots who just love the challenge of a short field.
